We all grieve in different ways.

Merrick Lindsay Nolan died today. The internet needs to know this. After a year long struggle with a very aggressive cancer she passed away. She never saw her 30th birthday.

She did, however, marry the man whom she fell in love with upon first laying eyes upon him. Theirs was a tumultuous courtship but proved an ending happy, though brief.

We all grieve in different ways.

At 7pm the phone call came. The worst was true. The fight was over. And I began to play phone tree, calling the others, telling them so that they would hear it from a human voice.

By 8pm I had a glass of champagne in my hand.

By 9pm I was working on glass number two.

By 10pm it had been decided that tonight was a night to celebrate life. Mine, hers, yours, whoever. Life.

By 11pm there was a microphone in my hand.

By 12am I was dancing and singing.

By 1am my bones hurt and my voice was gone, but still I was full of joy.

By 2am I was playing kissy face with a stranger.

I’m reminded of Scottish singer, Paolo Nutini, who croons, “It was in love I was created and in love is how I hope I die.”

I love you Merrick. And so does your husband.  It was in love she was created and most certainly in love is how she died.
