The Ghost Of Christmas Past
“Merry Christmas from Ohio,” the text message read.
The holidays are a funny time. I don’t know if it’s because we spend time with our families (and this somehow makes us think about our past) or what. Maybe it’s the cold weather. Maybe it’s just that we get lonely.
Or maybe, it’s just that Ohio makes him think of me.
We met some years ago and dated on and off. We never could seem to make things work. It was better that way. But every year, just like clockwork, he reappears.
He’s my very own ghost of Christmas past.
Just like in past years, we shot text messages back and forth for the better part of an hour. But unlike other boomerang men, I felt like I was catching up with an old friend–not part of some confidence game.
The holidays are indeed a funny time. And sometimes it’s nice to catch up with your ghosts.

Funny. I had my own ghost crop up just prior to Christmas. He was my “benchmark.” Not sure what to do with that yet.

Say I freeze meat in January. The package has an expiration date of February. When I thaw it in June, why doesn’t it remember immediately that it should have gone bad four months ago?
